This year through Lent, our youth studied the Lenten Prayers (the Collects for Lent in the Book of Common Prayer). This study allowed them to dive deep into the central ideas of what Lent is really about, and reflect on our own fallenness. It was a beautiful time of reflection on who God is and what Jesus did for us.
As part of our study, we put together a short video of our youth group reciting each of the prayers…
The Collect for the First Sunday in Lent
The Collect for the Second Sunday in Lent
The Collect for the Third Sunday in Lent
The Collect for the Fourth Sunday in Lent
The Collect for the Fifth Sunday in Lent
The Collect for Palm Sunday
Final Thoughts on the Lenten Prayer
Because these collects (prayers intended to be prayed collectively) lay a theological foundation for each week as we move through the season of Lent, they help us understand what the season is really about (we did a similar study on the Prayers of Advent too). And these conversations with our youth went deep. They start to focus in on single words in the prayers to really pick up a greater understanding of God’s character. It’s even helped us to better understand our own human condition and relate our own struggles to how God bring healing and redemption for those things in our lives.
After studying these Lenten prayers, we finished Holy Week with a special Stations of the Cross for youth and an evening in worship. It was an incredible way finish the season of reflection and preparation for the coming of a Risen Savior.
Amen.
